What non-surgical cosmetic treatments work?

September 16th, 2011

Most Top Cosmetic Procedures are Non-Surgical
The top cosmetic procedures today are non-surgical and that’s because they work well with little risks, side effects and downtime. Options range from Botox® and Dysport® to relax muscles and reduce fine lines and wrinkles; facial fillers to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and augment cheeks, chin, lips; chemical peels to stimulate collagen and soften discoloration and lasers to improve skin imperfections such as dilated blood vessels, rosacea, and tighten and smooth the skin. Often times a combination approach is used to achieve the patients’ goals.

How can you tell if a mole or sunspot is anything to worry about or is skin cancer?

May 14th, 2011

I highly recommend everyone get a cancer screening once a year.  Too often people self diagnose and come in too late.   That being said we use the ABCD rule which helps to identify unusual, suspect moles and spots:

  • A: Asymmetry-one half unlike the other half.
  • B: Border-irregular, scalloped or poorly defined border.
  • C: Color-varied from one area to another; shades of tan and brown, black; sometimes white, red or blue.
  • D: Diameter-Normally greater than 6mm in diameter (the size of a pencil eraser). Melanomas can be smaller. If you notice a mole different from others, or which changes itches, or bleeds (even if it is small) you should see a dermatologist.

I want a natural hair transplant: What are my options?

May 3rd, 2011

I use the most natural techniques of varying the hairs that I transplant onto the head and hairline areas.  Others use a plug-looking technique that won’t look natural.  We also have other options such as Propecia®  and our laser hair restorer.  We do consultations where we examine what your best line of treatment will be.

Here is an article with more information on hair transplants.

I am seeing everyone out there giving out cheap Botox® and fillers: What is the difference if I come see you?

May 2nd, 2011

Dermatologists work with these products every day and also worked to develop these.  We know how to properly use these products to give you the best, safest results.

I have seen patients come in from “spas” and other offices with bad results such as droopy eyelids, over extended lips or unevenness too often.  There is also an art to these products and once you’ve done these thousands of times, you know what each patient needs to look their best and not get a frozen or uneven look.  We’ve also kept our pricing very competitive here so it’s not worth the risk to take a chance.

What is the difference between a Dermatological Cosmetic Surgeon and a Plastic Surgeon?

April 20th, 2011

Years ago, there were only surgeries available to keep people looking younger.  Unfortunately the traditional facelifts left people looking very pulled and their eyes looking very hollow.  The industry now acknowledges that you need to add volume and relax wrinkles and these are done with Fillers and products like Botox as well as a more relaxed mini-lift and eye lifts.

Most of these products and procedures were developed by Dermatologists and we administer far more procedures than a plastic surgeon does for instance.  We have the experience to balance the use of all of these tools to get the most beautiful, natural, youthful results.
