Cellulite
Keeping Your Dimples Where You Want Them
Cellulite is said to affect 70% of women, according to a recent study done by Neutrogena. So that 70% of women are all looking for ways to remove cellulite in a fast and efficient manner, hence became the “Cellulite Removal Cream” epidemic.
Do Cellulite Reduction Creams Work?
Cellulite removing creams are a huge part of today’s drug store market. They’re on every counter and in every high-end department store, sucking in thousands of consumers weekly. But do they really work? And are there other ways?
What is cellulite and why do I notice it now?
Cellulite is when the skin appears to have areas with dimpling with are actually underlying fat deposits typically on the upper thighs and buttocks. Sometimes on the arms as well. Cellulite is not totally understood yet but one of the areas that are always being studied. Hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Many believe estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process. Slower metabolism, genetics (blame Mom) and circulatory insufficiency are said to be to major contributors as well. Men are affected as well as women but due to ladies having a higher body fat count and more estrogen, women are a better target for the pesky dimples. Also a women’s skin is thinner than a man’s making it more noticeable.
So now that we know what it is and who’s susceptible how do I get rid of it?
There are many methods out there above and beyond the creams that are said to reduce cellulite. Heat therapy, ultrasound treatments, Velashape treatments which include heat and massage are some as well. There are also a second grouping of removal ideas that consists of herbs and drugs said to help as well. Those include but are not limited to
- Caffeine and theobromine
- Pentoxifylline
- Amino acids
- Ginko biloba
- Indian chestnut …. all are said to help.
So back to the creams… What can a cream do for me?
Caffeine is in almost every cellulite-reducing product that shows any benefit, because it helps blood flow to the skin and works like a diuretic supposedly flushing you out. Retinols are also in many creams and apparently working to get thru the skin, increase collagen production to help hide the dimpling fat too. They also have certain amino acids from fish in some that help with circulation of blood to the affected area. Sounds like were trying to liven skin and keep it healthy ultimately. Each cream claims different vessels of transformation but NONE have proven to show 100% removal of cellulite. So maybe a topical cream can aid in the removal but has not proven to work by just itself.
So if I don’t want to spend hundreds creams that may or may not work what can I do?
A healthy diet plays an important role in keeping your cellulite square footage in check. Eat plenty of fiber and whole grain foods (such as bran and oat cereals), since they help to remove waste and toxins from the intestinal tract, as well as fruits and vegetables.
Also, drink plenty of agua. If you increase your daily intake of water, your body will begin to shed its excess fat, including the fat stored as cellulite. The water will also help strengthen the collagen in your skin, helping to reduce the lumpy look.
Physical exercise plays a huge role in this removal program but making sure your circulation is as good as it can be, since that’s what may cause the cellulite in the first place. Trainers state that squats and work outs targeting the backside are huge helpers in the reduction of cellulite too. Believe it or not they actually have work out clothes now that aid in the perfection of your skin. Their fabrics are said to be infused with ingredients like reinols, vitamin E, and caffeine that will help hydrate and tighten skin while you work out. Talk about multi-tasking.
Aside from working out stimulation and circulation are going to be key factors in at least keeping our backsides in a smooth situation. Circular massage and vigoration is a great way to stimulate your skin back there to help keep your blood pumping. So while your working in that sugar coffee scrub in the shower after the gym tomorrow go in a circular motion.
Overall there is no way to fully remove cellulite but all of these tactics are a great start. Circulation, healthy diet and physical activity are the best way to start the ban on lumpy backsides. If your still having a hard time with your geographical situation try a self tanner to help mask the problem. A healthy glow sometimes helps everything.
