Fewer Treatments, Better Results, Minimal Discomfort.*

The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology offers PicoWay® – the latest technology for removing tattoos. It’s not a magic wand, but it is the fastest, easiest and safest way to break up tattoo ink with excellent results.*

Benefits of the PicoWay® System

  • Fewer treatments than other lasers
  • Less discomfort during treatment
  • Better clearance of tattoo
  • Treats wide array of tattoo ink colors
  • Treats tattoos incompletely removed by other technology
  • Faster pulses mean less heat, safer for skin

How does the PicoWay® work?

Tattoo ink does fade, and tattoos can stretch over time, but it is designed to be permanent. If an unwanted tattoo is getting under your skin, consider the PicoWay® tattoo removal system.

PicoWay® treats professional tattoos, amateur tattoos and recalcitrant tattoos that did not respond well to nanosecond laser technology.

The amazing proprietary technology of the PicoWay® laser system targets the ink color or pigmentation with ultra-fast pulses – picosecond technology that is one trillionth of a second. This ultra-fast delivery of laser energy breaks the ink into much smaller particles than traditional nanosecond lasers. These minuscule granules are then more easily absorbed by the body and eliminated. *

How many treatments are required?

Multiple treatments are required for all laser tattoo treatments regardless what laser device is used. Patients may see significant improvement after just one treatment, but it typically takes several treatments for maximum results.

It also depends on how large the tattoo area is, the number of colors and the colors of the ink. Black ink is the easiest to treat. The good news is that PicoWay® is effective at multiple ink colors.

Physicians are finding that the PicoWay® can provide excellent results in clearing or reducing the appearance of a tattoo in as few as 3 to 4 treatments – often half the number of treatments of other lasers.

Is PicoWay® safe for darker skin?

PicoWay® is safe for all skin types, including darker skin. This ultra-fast delivery of concentrated high-powered energy helps ensure ink is effectively shattered while the least amount of heat is transferred to the skin, which is one of the reasons it is safer for darker skin types.

How does PicoWay® compare to other lasers?

Traditional Q-switch lasers are effective for removing simpler, black ink tattoos and some color combinations and The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology still offers the Medite C6. But traditional lasers do require more treatments. Traditional lasers also are less effective in removing certain ink colors like red, orange and yellows.

Picosecond technology is the next generation of lasers. The picosecond speed is 100 times quicker than traditional Q-switched nanosecond laser technology which means less heat transfer to the skin and less risk. PicoWay® is the newest picosecond laser on the market. Like its competitor, PicoSure® by Cynosure, PicoWay offers dual wavelengths with picosecond technology.

While both offer a 523 nm wavelength, PicoWay offers a stronger second wavelength of 1064 nm compared to PicoSure’s 755 nm. The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology has one of the largest and most comprehensive selections of cosmetic lasers in Southern California. The Laser Center has a long history of achieving good results for a variety of cosmetic treatments with Syneron Candela lasers. Dr. Timothy Jochen selected the PicoWay laser to offer patients what he believes is the best technology available to most effectively remove tattoos, especially multi-colored, complex tattoos.
