ONE Cleanse

There’s more to cleaning your face than using whatever soap you have on hand while in the shower. Choosing the right cleanser can be tricky since no two faces are exactly alike. Skin types vary between gender, ethnicity, age, and on a scale from oily to normal to dry. You want to make sure that you are using a cleanser that is going to help your unique skin the most. If you’re already dry, look into some moisturizing face washes and be sure to only wash your face one a day. Someone with more oily skin would probably want to wash their face both in the morning and evening. If you think you may be using the wrong face wash, call our office and ask us what cleanser you should be using.

TWO Exfoliate

You may be wondering why you should even be exfoliating at home on a regular basis. The body naturally produces new skin cells constantly, but sometimes those older skin cells don’t shed as quickly as they should. An area of dead skin buildup causes clogged pores which then lead to breakouts and blackheads.  How often you exfoliate is very much based on your unique skin. You want to exfoliate enough that your skin looks healthy and feels smooth. If you are done exfoliating and your skin is red or irritated two things could be happening, you either need to exfoliate less often or your product has too large of grains in it which is damaging the skin, either way give your face a few days to heal before trying again.

THREE Moisturize

When we wash our faces, we take the natural layer of oil off the face. This layer is a guard against allergens and antigens. It also protects the face from irritations, premature aging, and damaging effects from smoke or pollution in the air. Since we still want to make sure we’re washing our faces at least on a daily basis, we need to make sure we’re resupplying our face with the healthy layer of oils. A good moisturizer does this for your skin. Choose a moisturizer that is made for your skin type and don’t use any at night unless you’re already dry skinned.

FOUR Sunscreen

Most people think wearing sunscreen is something that only needs done on special days where you’re going to be outside all day at an amusement park or the beach, but there are many reasons why wearing a sunscreen daily is too important to ignore. First off, the sun’s rays are damaging to the skin and with the ozone depleting those rays can cause even more damage. Skin cancers are on the rise, and wearing a daily sun screen is a good step in a fight against cancer. Facial brown spots, discoloration, facial red veins, blotchiness, and wrinkled, premature aging skin, can all be reduced and prevented by a daily sunscreen.
