LASER CENTER
The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology now offers the Cutera Excel V Laser, an advanced laser that treats many vascular conditions with just one system.
What does this laser treat?
The Excel V treats a broad range of blood vessels from tiny spider veins to deep blue reticular veins quickly, safely and effectively. Patients with dark, light or tanned skin can experience outstanding results with minimal side effects.
How does it work?
The system deliver pulses of light energy which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below the skins surface, where it should be.
How many treatments will I need?
Often, patients find that 3-5 treatments are sufficient for smaller veins. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated. Since individual results vary we would schedule a consultation to customize a package with discounts to suit your individual needs. Treatments are performed every 4 weeks.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most patients have expressed a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. Although no local anesthesia or paint medication is typically required. Following the treatment the pain is minimal to nonexistent.
What are the possible side effects?
Although many patients report few if any side effects, those most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. These effects typically last about 48-72 hours.
This advanced laser system can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Port Wine Stains
- Rosacea
- Leg Veins
- Facial Telangiectasias
- Cherry Angiomas
Through extensive research and development, the Excel V laser was designed from the ground up to meet some of the most requested features physicians wanted in a vascular laser system.
LASER GENESIS
Diffuse redness and rosacea are challenging conditions to treat. The very small, fine network of vessels that creates diffuse redness requires a very short pulse width to treat effectively.
Cutera’s Excel V laser includes the parameters for a patented procedure known as Laser Genesis. This microsecond 1064 nm treatment is an excellent choice for diffuse redness, rosacea, and scars, as well as being an excellent skin rejuvenation treatment. This unique procedure targets the micro-vascularity with microsecond high-peak-power pulses, reducing erythema while stimulating collagen production.
Recent research has shown improvement in a range of scars, from fresh surgical scars to keloid and hypertrophic scars, following treatments with Laser Genesis. Because this procedure has no downtime, minimal discomfort and no disposables, Laser Genesis has become a staple of skin care for many offices. This one procedure offers a multi-purpose, all-season, all skin type solution for overall skin health
High Energy, Short Pulse
Vascular laser treatments follow the principle of Selective Photothermolysis – the selective destruction of a targeted structure based on the proper combination of wavelength, pulse width, and fluence. Physicians choose the wavelength based on the chromophore – hemoglobin in the case of vascular treatments. They choose the pulse width to confine the heating to the targeted structure. Finally, they choose the fluence to heat the target to the point of destruction. Small vessels require a short pulse width and enough energy to collapse the vessel.
Some of the most challenging vascular conditions to treat include port wine stains and diffuse redness, since both include a network of fine vessels. Small vessels will require a short pulse to confine the energy to the vessel. An in vivo measurement of port wine stain vessels determined the thermal relaxation time to be in the range of 1 to 10 milliseconds. These small vessels also will require a high energy to provide sufficient heat for results.
