Bye, Bye Redness, Hello Clear Skin

Is acne, rosacea, spider veins or other facial redness affecting your otherwise beautiful complexion? You can achieve clearer skin from a variety of vascular and pigmented skin conditions with lasting results from targeted laser therapy.

Among the lasers at The Laser Center at Contour Dermatology which best treat redness concerns, the Vbeam Perfecta is the newest. It’s the latest version of Candela’s Vbeam laser. What’s different between the Vbeam Perfecta and the original Vbeam? The Vbeam perfecta has eight filters as opposed to four which lessen the temporary purple bruising side effect of this laser treatment. This laser has been recognized with Elle magazine’s Elle Future of Beauty Award in 2019.

Nurse Practitioner Laura Moroney, NP-C who specializes in lasers at Contour said, “This laser offers the opportunity to treat the lesion or discoloration with or without the result of purpura the dark eggplant colored bruising that can occur with the regular Vbeam.”

“Purpura is not a bad thing,” she explained. “It’s the body’s healing response to the laser treatment. “The bruising does completely subside, but it takes several days. So, patients need to be aware of that when deciding on treatment options.”

The Vbeam Perfecta features micropulse technology to target the blood vessels in the skin. A pulsed-dye laser, it’s concentrated beam converts the light to heat upon contact with the skin and that destroys the broken capillaries that are causing the visible redness, but it leaves the surrounding skin untouched. It also features a patented cooling device for a more comfortable patient experience and to protect the skin during treatment.

The Vbeam Perfecta is FDA cleared for more than 20 uses including

  • Acne – Inflammatory acne vulgaris
  • Benign pigmented lesions
  • Benign vascular lesions
  • Cherry angioma
  • Dyschromia
  • Facial telangiectasia – visible patterns of blood vessels
  • Hemangioma
  • Leg veins
  • Nasal telangiectasia
  • Photo-rejuvenation
  • Poikiloderma
  • Port wine stains
  • Post-procedural bruising
  • Psoriasis
  • Rosacea
  • Scars including acne scars
  • Spider angioma
  • Striae – red stretch marks
  • Telangiectatic matting
  • Venous lakes
  • Warts (non-facial)
  • Wrinkles

The original Vbeam has been a popular laser and staple at Contour Dermatology for years and will remain in use at our Rancho Mirage office. It is recommended for patients who need a more aggressive treatment with the endpoint of purpura, for example, the reduction of a port wine stain. Other treatments such as broken spider veins on the face can be treated with a lower wavelength of the Vbeam Perfecta which still provides effective treatment, but with no purpura and no down time.
