7 things that affect your skin more than you thought!

Who knew these seven things were taboo

Your skin is your largest organ and it reflects your overall health and well-being. But did you know that there are many factors that can affect your skin more than you thought? Some of them may surprise you!

1. Alcohol

Whether you like to enjoy a glass of wine after work or a night on the town with the girls, we all enjoy having a drink now and then. An alcoholic drink will actually dehydrate you and diminish nutrients in your skin and will leave you with a dull look. Do you remember those college days out on the town with your friends, everyone’s faces bright red from their pink martini’s they just slurped down. Alcohol will dilate blood vessels causing your skin to have a red tone. If you want to have a few drinks make sure you are replenishing your body with water to avoid your skin looking like its having its own hangover.

2. Diet

This one is obvious, by eating the right food you can improve and even prevent common skin problems. Being healthy in general will affect everything from your hair to your skin and nails. It’s all about what your putting in your body. If you are eating healthy you will be able to see it. Nourishing your skin from the inside out is the easiest way to prevent blemishes and breakouts. Try eating foods with good sources of nutrients such as, vitamin C & E, and omega 3-Fatty acids. All for these will help protect and nourish making you have a youthful appearance.

3. Drink More Water

If you are struggling with dry skin it probably means you’re not keeping yourself hydrated! Skin needs to be hydrated to stay flexible- even if you are a little parched your skin can tend to look tired and dry. Drinking up the appropriate amount of water per day will also help rid the skin of toxins to give you a radiant glow. Remember, it won’t work overnight- you need to be consistent. Some even say that drinking water can take up to 10 years off of your face, pour a little more!

4. Exercise

Did you know that the thing we hate most about working out is actually really great for your skin?! Sweating helps rid your body of toxins, you just have to remember to shower immediately afterwards or else the toxins can clog your pores even more. Exercise also gets the blood flowing which means your body will pump oxygen to the skin which gets led to the surface to improve overall skin health. Even though you didn’t need another reason to go to the gym, going can be our little skin care secret for a young, healthier, and smoother complexion.

5. Sleep

Has anyone ever told you to get your beauty rest? Hit that snooze button twice girl, because sleeping can actually improve the way you look! To get the best results you need to strive for seven to nine hours of sleep each night because your body will not only release a human growth hormone that helps repair your skin but it also increases the melatonin in your system which is an antioxidant that protects your skin. So get your money’s worth out of that expensive memory foam pillow because they don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing!

6. Stop Smoking

So many are under the spell of the most common addiction: Cigarettes. But if you manage to ditch the cigg for good it will not only make you healthier but more attractive too! We’ve all seen the older women who have the smoker lines around the lips, who wants to look like her before they even have grandchildren? I certainly do not. Kicking the habit will freshen up your complexion by allowing your body to absorb oxygen and the nutrients it needs to stay nourished. Good news to those who have been smoking for years, within 6 weeks of quitting your skin will appear healthier than ever!

7. Stress

Have you ever noticed that when you stress you break out more? When you get tense your body releases a hormone called “cortisol” which can increase the oil production in your skin making you more susceptible to break outs. Like that’s exactly what you need when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Think about it, when you stress out you don’t take care of yourself, you start eating more junk food and stop exercising. So stop stressing out and go take a meditation yoga class or get some BFF therapy to help relieve some of that built up tension.
