We Can Take Care of That, No Sweat!
Let’s face it, we all sweat. However, some may sweat a lot, and even for no reason at all. This condition is often diagnosed as hyperhidrosis. Thankfully, those of you that have this condition, are not without options at Contour Dermatology!
3% of Americans Suffer from Hyperhidrosis
According to the American Academy of Dermatology, nearly 3 percent of the U.S. population suffers from hyperhidrosis. The condition is genetic, it affects every part of a person’s life, and is often very embarrassing. Hyperhidrosis is essentially a condition where the autonomic nervous system, tells a person’s sweat glands to be overactive, causing them to work much more than necessary. It most commonly effects the palms, feet, and underarms. However, it can affect anywhere sweat glands are present, such as the face.
Treatment Options for Hyperhidrosis
So, what can you do about it? The first thing you can do, is make an appointment at Contour Dermatology. That’s because our staff has the tools it needs, to make your life better. After consulting with Dr. Jochen, he may recommend a couple different treatment options. One of those options, is Drysol. This product works by being absorbed into the cells and preventing the sweat glands from being overactive. It is applied topically and allowed to absorb into the skin, just like the deodorant you’re accustomed to.
Although Drysol is an effective, and safe treatment option, Dr. Jochen may recommend a more dynamic solution, like Botox, or Dysport. Dr. Jochen has had dramatic results with these injections. Just 50 units can treat the site for six months! The procedure is very fast, start to finish is often just a minute or two, safe, pain free, and dramatically effective. most patients say they feel hardly more than a pin prick, and noticeable results are seen in as little as 1 to 3 days. These two injectable treatments work by interrupting the signals sent to the sweat glands, stopping them from overexerting themselves. If Drysol proves to be ineffective for you, then the injectables may even be covered by your insurance. You don’t have to let Hyperhidrosis control the way you live your life.
