What is a Turkey Wattle?

Of all the things to inherit, no one wants the double chin. It’s also called a turkey wattle. Who wants to remind people of Thanksgiving dinner when they look at our profile? That’s never attractive. Liposuction is a very good option to take care of this, but not many people have the down time for this particular procedure. That is what makes the ever expanding field of nonsurgical treatment options so wonderful, because that is what Kybella is for the double chin.Actual Patient with Dr. Timothy Jochen administering a Kybella Injection

Kybella is a series of two to three appointments about one month apart that involves injections to the area under the chin. The first treatment usually takes about 30 minutes and, based on the results of the previous treatment, the other treatments take about 15 to 20 minutes.

What the injections are made of is an FDA approved prescription for adults that is made of non-human and non-animal form of deoxycholic acid. Now, deoxycholic acid is a molecule naturally occurring in the body that is part of the process to break down and absorb fat from what you eat. In the form of the Kybella prescription, it causes the permanent destruction of fat cells in the submental area.

Beyond some mild swelling and bruising, most people, especially business men and women, like this procedure because it doesn’t infringe on their busy schedules. They can go right back to light duty desk work and finish their day.

The causes for concern against a person receiving Kybella would be people who currently have an infection in the area to be treated. Risk factors such as smoking, health history of diabetes, poor skin integrity, and steroid use are to be taken into consideration because these things all can contribute to poor wound healing and poor recovery.

It is very important to have a trained healthcare professional do the injections because some of the side effects can include: swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, and hardness in the treatment area.

Call our office today for a consultation and see if Kybella can help you with your aesthetic goals.
