What is a Jessner's Peel?
The Jessner’s Peel is a solution consisting of 14% lactic acid and 14% salicylic acid (AHA) peeling agent with a resorcinol solvent. This is a strong chemical peel that is known for delivering great results.
Why choose a Jessner's Peel?
A Jessner’s peel achieves a more thorough peel than a Glycolic Acid peel also known as AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) peel. Besides being an excellent facial treatment, a Jessner’s peel can be used to lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and to treat acne, acne-scarred, photo damaged and aging skin.
How is this Procedure Conducted?
Jessner’s solution is gently applied onto the skin. Repeated coats are applied until a white frost develops. For a deep, effective peel, this usually takes 4 to 6 coats. A temporary stinging, burning and numbing sensation has been noted upon initial contact as well as minor skin sensitivity and light to moderate redness. Once the peel is neutralized, Steppie MD® Antioxidant Sunscreen Spray SPF 25 is then applied. Not only chemical-free, this UVA/UVB daily sun protection provides moisture while protecting your skin from the sun, which is very important after a chemical peel. You will need to follow the post-treatment instructions provided by your paramedical clinical esthetician for safety and optimal results.
After the Peel?
The downtime is moderate. It varies accordingly to individual skin traits and selected concentration/application methods. After a few days, the top layer of your skin will naturally flake or peel away. This could last for 5-7 days on average but there is a possibility that it may take longer. This process, in essence, reveals a much clearer and smoother skin.
Sunburn Alert: This product contains Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) and Resorcinol, which may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and the possibility of sunburn. We recommend using Steppie MD® Antioxidant Sunscreen Spray SPF 25, which provides broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays with no chemical sun filters. It contains an FDA-approved physical blocker, Zinc Oxide to reflect light away from the skin. Apply 30 minutes before exposure and reapply often when exposed to the sun.
Note: Ethnic skin types should proceed with caution due to an increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from Resorcinol exposure.
How often should I do a Jessner's Peel?
A Jessner’s peel is a progressive treatment that will not provide a final result with one peel. If the treatment is intended to solve a signifcant problem, Jessner’s peels are performed every 4 weeks depending on the condition of your skin.
