SkinCure for Healthy Skin to Adore!

SkinCure Oncology is changing the face of non-melanoma skin cancer treatment with a highly effective and minimally invasive treatment option, Image-Guided SRT. Image Guided Superficial Radiotherapy (IG-SRT) provides superior results for treating non-melanoma skin cancer and is now offered at Contour Dermatology as an alternative to Mohs surgery.

IGSRT is a Non-Surgical Radiotherapy Treatment

IG-SRT is a radiotherapy-based treatment, so surgery is not required. As a result, IG-SRT greatly reduces, and in many cases eliminates, many side effects patients might experience from surgery. This innovative treatment provides patients with a painless, effective treatment resulting in fewer health side effects, good cosmetic results, and less recovery time.

IG-SRT is a fantastic option for patients concerned with a surgical procedure or worried about their appearance post-surgery. This treatment yielded superior cosmetic results and was more than 99% effective in curing squamous and basal cell carcinoma in clinical studies. The US FDA has cleared the SkinCure device for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer.

Patients Want a Non-Invasive Solution

Many patients tell us that they are concerned with Mohs surgery since there are many risks, including scars, wounds, issues with healing, excessive bleeding, infection, loss of nerve function, and cosmetic or functional deformities. We are thrilled to inform our patients that IG-SRT is a radiotherapy-based treatment, and no surgical intervention is required to reduce these risks and other medical concerns.

When performing Mohs surgery, the surgeon’s skill level may have a significant impact on the results, especially regarding the cosmetic outcome. However, with IG-SRT treatment, the results are not dependent on a surgeon’s experience, and the cosmetic results are brilliant and more consistent than other options.

Superficial radiotherapy utilizes a low-energy therapy using X-ray radiation in the 50 to 100 kv range. This device can be utilized on most any part of the body, including the scalp, face, arms, legs, back, and more.

Patients Can Watch the Procedure

We are excited to announce that patients can watch the IG-SRT procedure as it happens! The technician and the patient can view a live image of the tumor while radiation therapy is applied. Patients feel more a part of the process as they’re able to watch the procedure and feel more confident with the results when they can see that the cancer is shrinking. This unique technology provides the benefit of real-time visible proof that the tumor is now undetectable and likely gone. With IG-SRT, we can show patients the image recorded before treatment began alongside a live image of their now cancer-free skin.

There are many terrific benefits for patients who receive SRT treatments. These include greater accuracy since the improved radiation technique targets the cancer cells, resulting in less damage to surrounding healthy tissue. A more controlled dose of radiation, as too much radiation is applied too quickly, can lead to skin breakdown and other side effects. Also, too little radiation risks not killing the cancer cells. Most important is precision since using a high-frequency image guidance system helps to ensure the highest level of accuracy when targeting cancer cells

Dr. Jochen Recommends Regular Skin Screenings

Dr. Jochen and the staff believe it is important to inform patients about the causes, treatments, and prevention of skin cancers. The critical steps of performing regular self-examinations of your skin and scheduling a yearly visit for skin cancer screening in our office increase the chances of early detection before treatment becomes more challenging. We recommend you perform a monthly self-examination of your face and entire body, looking for changes in the shape or size of spots, moles, or other irregularities.

During your annual skin cancer screening in our office, one of our specialists trained in diagnosing and treating skin diseases will perform a painless, easy, and non-invasive two-to-three-minute visual inspection of your face and entire body. The professional staff at Contour expertly diagnoses and treats thousands of cases of pre-cancerous skin lesions, which might turn into skin cancer if left untreated.

After your screening, if either basal cell or squamous cell carcinoma skin cancers are detected, we will advise you of the surgical and non-surgical options available. Until now, most dermatologists used Mohs Micrographic surgery as an effective technique for removing skin cancer. We are extremely pleased to offer SkinCure IG-SRT as a painless and more effective alternative to Mohs surgery, resulting in fewer side effects, good cosmetic results and less recovery time.

Take Steps to Prevent Skin Cancer

Remember that you can take steps daily to prevent skin cancer by responsibly spending time in the sun. Take precautions when you leave the house or drive in your car by wearing effective sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 to protect your face and body from harmful UV sun rays. Avoid spending long periods in sunlight, and wear clothing and hats to shield your skin from the sun. Don’t forget UV protection sunglasses and avoid tanning beds or lamps too.

Please call our office today to set up your annual skin cancer screening and to learn more about the incredible benefits of Image-Guided Superficial Radiotherapy treatment for basal and squamous cell skin cancers. IG-SRT will give you the amazing and healthy skin you will adore!
